WE MADE IT!!!
Summited on October 12, 2005
YES!!!
We had beautiful weather for nearly the entire last month of the trail, with a gorgeous summit-day. Mount Katahdin was a challenging finale to the journey, with about 4,000' vertical gain over the last five miles. Lots of hand-over-hand climbing became the order of the day...
...and getting to the top was a HUGE relief...
...so we clowned around on the sign awhile, playing Vogue photo-session. Kara took it particularly seriously.
...More pictures later!

Hello! We met you while having breakfast at Amicola Lodge in Ga on 2/27/05, our son "Shorts" started on that day! I just found your web site today on a link from Bubbletoes. So glad to hear you all made it! Shorts finished in early August and is now in college, although today he is actually back on the AT in VA. His friend Metric missed 50 miles of the trail so they are doing that this weekend!
You can check out Shorts journal on trail journals.
Hello Short's Mom & Dad! Glad to hear that he made it - our congrats to him. I don't think we ever got to meet him; we were on a bit slower hiking pace. ;-)
I'll definitely peek over at his journal - thanks!

And the judges have decided: Stephen has transcended Newscaster status and is now officially a Pirate! CONGRATULATIONS!!
I have to agree with the Anonymous judges - we've definitely achieved Pirate status.
(Hmmm... maybe all this time all I needed to do was go on a long, long hike...?)
Congratulations!
